Description
The BSC614-24V is the link between an energy source on the high voltage side (fuel cell, traction battery, Super-Caps) and the low voltage side (24V vehicle electrical system). Depending on the application the alternator or even the 24V-battery can be omitted (e.g.: if the BSC614-24V directly supplies loads like headlights, windscreen wipers or blinkers).

The BSC614-24V is a versatile device due to the flexibly adaptable CAN-matrix. However, its most common applications are fuel cell vehicles, where it is on one hand used to boost up the traction net (start-up fuel cell) and on the other hand operated in buck mode in order to supply the auxiliary net. But also in hybrid cars it is used, either only as an unidirectional converter operating in buck mode in order to supply the auxiliary net or as well in the bidirectional operation, in order to start up the combustion engine from the 24V-battery.

The BSC614-24V is a bidirectional DC/DC-Converter with galvanic isolation between the high voltage and low voltage circuit. The device is based on one hand upon a series-resonant operating transformer stage, which ensures the galvanic isolation. On the other hand two buck/boost-converters, that are operated interleaved in order to reduce ripple currents, allow to adjust the required voltage level in the corresponding operation mode. Due to the resonant topology of the transformer stage and the so-called AutoCommutation of the buck/boost-converter not only losses are reduced to a minimum but also an excellent EMC-behaviour is obtained.
