The GIC246 is the first high-performance DC/DC converter with galvanic isolation for automotive applications. The converter is mainly designed for fuel cell applications, in which it acts as a link between fuel cell, HV battery and drive. Due to the bidirectionality, fuel cell auxiliary circuits can be activated selectively. The device consists of a transformer stage working in a serial-resonant manner, by means of which the galvanic isolation is realized, in series with a buck / boost converter with overlapping voltage range based on the resonant switching topology SoftSwing®. Because of the resonant switching topology of the transformer stage and the SoftSwing® topology of the buck / boost converter, losses can be limited to a minimum and excellent EMC properties can be achieved.
